The Englishman is a small clothing brand based in Broadstairs, Kent, making well-cut everyday clothing that carries English detailing. We started it because nobody else was doing the obvious thing.
How this English clothing brand began
A lot of men in this country have quietly stopped saying where they are from. Not because the feeling went away, but because at some point it became easier to say nothing than to explain yourself.
That is a strange thing to watch happen, and stranger still when you realise how recent it is.
What was actually missing
The market had two options and neither worked.
The first was tournament merchandise: red and white, printed heavily, built for one summer and then for a drawer. Fine for what it is, but nobody wears it in February.
The second was the novelty end — slogans designed to provoke, printed on garments nobody would have bought without the slogan.
What did not exist was the obvious middle: well-made everyday clothing that happened to carry English detailing.
What we decided
Clothing before message. If the garment is not good, the design on it does not matter. Premium cotton, double-stitched seams, fits that hold their shape.
Restraint over volume. Small, clean detailing rather than chest-sized graphics. We set out our reasoning in how to wear it properly.
A real size range. XS to 5XL across the garments, not a token gesture at the top end.

We are a small operation based in Kent, shipping across the United Kingdom. The people who chose the fabrics are the people who answer the emails.
