Who writes The Englishman Journal

Everything published on this site is written in-house. There is no content agency, no rotating pool of freelancers, and no byline attached to someone who has never handled the product.

The Englishman editorial team

The Journal is written by the same small team that runs the business from Kent — the people who select the fabrics, approve the print, pack the orders and answer the emails. When an article talks about how a garment holds up after twenty washes, that is coming from having washed it twenty times.

What we write about, and why we can

English history and symbolism. The cross of St George, the three lions, St George's Day and the Union flag come up constantly in our customer emails, usually as a question nobody could answer for them. Our history articles are researched against published historical and heraldic sources, and we write them plainly rather than academically.

Garments and fit. This is the part where we have direct, first-hand expertise. We have handled every product we sell across every size in the range, from XS to 5XL. Our advice on fit, fabric weight, print durability and care is based on the actual stock, not on a supplier's spec sheet.

How we handle accuracy

Historical claims are checked against published sources before publication. Where something is genuinely disputed — the origins of the St George's cross, or whether Shakespeare really was born on 23 April — we say so rather than picking the tidier version.
